While this made an OK book to read while on the treadmill at the gym, I felt the focus on medical disasters of the 18th century and older, particularly those that occurred in England, prevented me from enjoying it fully. I did find it interesting to learn about Typhoid Mary and other errors that lead to the preventable spread of disease, as well as advances that were made, albeit too late to save the original victims.

The authors phrasing, perhaps because he was British and perhaps because he may have been trying to use language common of the era when the particular disasters occurred, was at times confusing and I had to read a few more than once to figure out the point he was trying to make.
